Angela Park Cello Recital: Beethoven, Schumann and more

Cellist Angela Park (Park Jean-young, 박진영) will give a recital of Beethoven sonatas, and more., on February 28th. It is another of Park Chang-soo’s The House Concerts (하우스콘서트) that I introduced before here.

20130418_박안젤라진영_161The program is likeable late Classical and Romantic fare: Beethoven Cello Sonata No.1 in F Major, Op.5; Tchaikovsky Pezzo Capriccioso for Cello and Piano, Op.; Schumann (1810-1856) Fantasy Pieces for Cello and Piano, Op.73; Beethoven Cello Sonata in C Major, Op.102, No.1.

Park did very well in the Isang Yun Competition a few years ago. This competition, held in Tongyeong on the south coast of Korea, has cello, piano, and violin editions on a three year cycle. 2012 was a cello year, and Park tied for 2nd place with Russian cellist Alexey Zhilin. The winner was Uladzimir Sinkevich from Belarus. Stiff competition!

She seems to have a knack for chamber music. From her bio >>>

“With her passion for chamber music, she has been invited to festivals such as the Marlboro Festival, where a performance of hers was praised as “deft and sophisticated” (Boston Globe), Prussia Cove Open Chamber Music, Ravinia Festival, Verbier Festival, Perlman Chamber Music Workshop, among others, and frequently organizes chamber music concerts in Berlin, where she resides. She has worked with the most inspiring chamber music colleagues such as Leonidas Kavakos, Miriam Fried, Peter Wiley, Daniel Matsukawa, Bruno Canino, Kim Kashkashian, and Richard Goode, and has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) orchestra, among others.”

She will be accompanied by Han Sunmi (한선미). Oh wait, sonatas are duets. Arrrrrg.  Sorry to accompanists everywhere.  (:  Some information about Ms. Han here.
