Bang on a Can All-Stars – Tongyeong International Music Festival – 2014 – Bang on a Can

New York City’s Bang on a Can All-Stars return to Asia for a six-concert tour & residency. The residency and two concerts will be held in Tongyeong, as part of this year’s new music festival there –March 28th to April 3rd.  I’ll write more about that soon (after I get sick of watching the Olympics during my free time at home. Being a Canadian from the countryside, I‘m into winter Olympics (:      ). Tongyeong is a small coastal city in the south of Korea with more character than the average small city here.

Watch them perform Tyondai Braxton’s Casino Trem here.

Musical mediators:  “Bang on a Can emerged from that era [mid 80’s New York downtown scene] as well, but not quite from the same direction [as that of folks such as Tim Berne, Bobby Previte, and Jim Black]. Liner notes to Industry (Sony Classical, 1995) describe the 1987 debut of the Bang on a Can festival as an attempt to create a polyglot musical direction, one that bridged the tuxedos of uptown new-classical with the black T-shirts of the downtown scene.” – Banging on Cans: How the New New Music Won Out

  1. Saw them perform Brian Enos “Music For Airports” at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival a good few years ago………absolute magic, even better that Enos own version.

    • Wow you’re lucky! (: I’m looking forward to seeing them. I wonder how the workshops will be and who will participate. I’ll post more here.
